Rolling… make sure everything's good. We have a little mirror over there. Thank you.
"You look lovely."
"And so do you — you match your office!"
"That’s all planned. This is my version of scrubs — I wear a nice outfit instead. I dressed up for the interview."
We joked about the office environment, but it’s actually a serious subject. Many doctors’ and dentists’ offices feel cold, clinical, even intimidating. We wanted to do something different.
Typically, you walk in, see a glass window, hear muffled voices behind it — not very welcoming. In our office, you’re greeted with a smiling face. We see one patient at a time. There's no "waiting room" — it’s a reception area, but you won’t be waiting. It’s warm, cozy, and personal.
We’ve thought through everything — even the Keurig. You may not get to enjoy it fully because we run on time, but it's there. When you sit in the chair, we’ve added little holders for your coffee and phone. You can even take your coffee with you to the treatment room.
We believe in five-star customer service — making everything as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
"I’ve been doing this a long time. I love it. This office is like my man cave — full of high-tech toys. I get to do what I love, see friends and family, and work one-on-one with patients."
I’ve always stayed on the cutting edge. I even send my patients tech tips. The best electric toothbrush I recommend is the Oral-B iO. It oscillates and vibrates, and gives visual feedback — green if you're doing it right, red if you're pressing too hard. It’s like going from a bucket and sponge to a full-service car wash. Total game changer.
We don’t give out cheap toothbrushes here. I have patients log into Amazon and order the best. Oral hygiene matters, and we want people using the right tools.
Toothpaste? Use what you like — they all work pretty well. One myth: whitening toothpaste doesn’t actually whiten teeth. It removes stains, but doesn’t bleach teeth. Only peroxide-based products do that — like what you’ll find in professional treatments.
There are four commonly perceived whitening methods:
We use KöR because it's scientifically validated. We make trays that seal out saliva (which breaks down peroxide) and use gel shipped cold to preserve its effectiveness. The process spans seven weeks: two weeks of at-home treatment, one in-office session, and two weeks follow-up.
It desensitizes teeth first, so the in-office session is more comfortable and longer-lasting. Done right, the results are permanent.
Braces? No thanks. They’re like cheese graters — messy, hard to clean, and outdated.
Today, we use ClearCorrect, a clear aligner system similar to Invisalign, made in Texas. You remove them to eat and brush, and most cases finish in 3 to 6 months.
They’re nearly invisible. One TV anchor forgot to take them out while broadcasting — and no one noticed. They’re comfortable, efficient, and cost-effective.
Veneers can dramatically change shape, color, and alignment. But we always ask: do you really need them?
Often, if we straighten and whiten your natural teeth, you may not need veneers at all. And nothing is better than your natural teeth.
When veneers are necessary, we use a minimal-prep approach. In some cases, no prep at all — just bond ultra-thin porcelain to well-positioned teeth. We aim for subtle enhancements — not that obvious “Hollywood” look.
We want people to say, “You look great, I can’t tell what changed,” not “Oh, you got veneers.”
Cosmetic dentistry can feel out of reach. But we focus on education first.
At the first visit, we take photos, review them together, and discuss what you want to improve. If budget is an issue, we develop step-by-step plans that improve your smile progressively — or maintain what you have.
We prioritize natural results and sensible investments, not upsells.
People often forget that their teeth are a six-figure asset. One implant can cost $4,000–5,000. Multiply that across 28 teeth — your mouth is worth protecting. Spend $80 on a proper toothbrush, and take care of it.
What sets us apart? Education, experience, and personal attention. I study every night. I take courses, seek out new tools, and refine everything we do here. That’s the standard we’ve set — and it’s what our five-star reviews reflect.
We treat one person at a time. We don’t jump from room to room. When you're here, you have our full attention. That’s how we do it.

Flaus… This changes everything in flossing
Hi, I’m Dr. Tom Hedge.
I’ve been a dentist for almost 40 years — and the biggest problem I still face is getting people to floss.
Honestly? I’m not a great flosser either. Let’s be real: it’s a pain. It’s hard to reach, hard to get the floss through the contact points.
I’ve heard every excuse:
One day, I was just scrolling Facebook and saw an ad for a device called Flouse.
I figured, whatever, but I needed to try it — for my patients.
And wow — this thing is amazing.
Honestly, I’m somewhat addicted to flossing now.
Here’s what makes it different:
Do yourself a favor: get one.
You’ve got $100,000 worth of teeth in your mouth.
Lose one tooth and you're looking at an extraction, implant, bone graft — that’s $4,000–5,000 per tooth. Do the math across 28 teeth.
A $100–120 investment in something like Flouse? Totally worth it.
Highly recommended — Dr. Tom Hedge.

What would you say separates you from the pack?
Education and experience.
I’ve always been fanatical about continuing education — and I still am.
I read every night. I’m constantly learning — about dentistry and beyond. I’m also a bit of a techie. I read Apple News+ on my iPad and explore everything I can.
If I sit through an all-day course and walk away with even one pearl — one little tip that makes me better at what I do — then it was worth it. And I enjoy that process.
(Friend speaking)
"I'll add something to that — as your friend and your patient. You also bring an incredible level of comfort and ease, which is rare in a dental environment."
Thank you — we work hard at that.
We even have five stars painted on the wall — not as a brag, but as a reminder: we aim for five-star service in everything we do. We want people to feel special — like they’re the only person we’re treating at that moment.
I don’t jump from room to room. I can’t do that anymore — and I don’t want to.
I want to focus completely on the person in front of me.
They deserve my full attention. That’s fair to them, and honestly, it’s what makes the work fulfilling.
“Thank you, my friend.”
"Let’s go fix that chip."
"Let’s go fix the tooth."

How often should I visit the dentist?
Houston Dentists of Tanglewood, led by Dr. Tom Hedge, recommends that patients visit the dentist at least twice a year for routine cleanings and exams. However, some patients may need to come in more frequently if they have certain dental issues or conditions. Regular dental visits can help identify and address potential problems before they become more serious, so it's important to keep up with your appointments.
How can I improve my oral hygiene?
Improving oral hygiene is key to maintaining good dental health. Dr. Tom Hedge of Houston Dentists of Tanglewood recommends brushing your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes each time, using fluoride toothpaste. Flossing should be done once a day to remove any food or bacteria that may be stuck between your teeth. Additionally, using an antiseptic mouthwash can help kill germs and freshen breath.
How often should I brush and floss my teeth?
To maintain good dental health, brushing and flossing should be done at least twice a day. Brushing should be done for two minutes each time, using fluoride toothpaste. Flossing should be done once a day to remove any food or bacteria that may be stuck between your teeth. However, Dr. Tom Hedge of Houston Dentists of Tanglewood recommends that patients who are at a higher risk for dental problems, such as those with gum disease, should brush and floss more frequently.
What are the signs of gum disease?
The signs of gum disease include red, swollen, or bleeding gums, bad breath, and receding gums. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss and other serious dental problems. Dr. Tom Hedge of Houston Dentists of Tanglewood recommends that patients come in for regular dental checkups to catch and treat gum disease early.
Is it normal for my gums to bleed when I brush?
While some bleeding may occur when brushing or flossing, it's not normal to bleed every time you brush your teeth. Bleeding gums can be a sign of gum disease, so it's important to see a dentist if you're experiencing this symptom. Dr. Tom Hedge of Houston Dentists of Tanglewood can evaluate your dental health and help determine the cause of any bleeding.
What should I do if I have a toothache?
If you have a toothache, Dr. Tom Hedge of Houston Dentists of Tanglewood recommends scheduling an appointment as soon as possible to determine the cause of the pain. What are my options If I have a missing tooth/teeth?
If you have missing teeth, there are several options available to you. At Houston Dentists of Tanglewood, Dr. Tom Hedge and his team can help you choose the best option for your needs. One option is dental implants, which involve surgically placing an artificial tooth root in your jawbone and then attaching a replacement tooth. Another option is a dental bridge, which involves placing a prosthetic tooth between two adjacent teeth. Dentures are also a common option, which are removable prosthetic teeth that can be custom-fitted to your mouth. Finally, there is the option of leaving the gap and not replacing the missing teeth, but this is not recommended and it can lead to problems such as shifting teeth and a change in bite. Whatever your needs, Houston Dentists of Tanglewood can help you find the solution that works best for you.
What are my options if I want straighter teeth?
At Houston Dentists of Tanglewood, Dr. Tom Hedge offers multiple options for achieving straighter teeth. Aside from traditional braces, there are several orthodontic options such as Invisalign, which uses clear plastic aligners to gradually shift teeth. These aligners are nearly invisible and can be removed for eating and cleaning. Dr. Hedge offers alternative options to Invisalign such as SureSmile, Clear Correct and Smile Club Direct. Depending on the severity of your teeth, veneers may also be an option for those looking to straighten their teeth for cosmetic purposes only.
